NCRIB, Lagos State seal pact on insurance education

The Nigerian Council of Registered Insurance Brokers (NCRIB) and the Lagos State government have partnered to promote insurance education among secondary school students in the state.

The Council, during a courtesy visit to the Lagos State Commissioner for Education, Folashade Adefisayo, in Lagos, led by the Deputy President of the Council, Babatunde Oguntade, regretted the slow acceptance of insurance as part of the secondary school curriculum and noted that brokers are yearning for the support of the State Ministry of Education to change the narrative.

Oguntade, who is also the Chairman of the Research and Development Committee of the Council, stressed that the insurance industry accommodates diverse people, which ultimately provides the basis for the richness of the profession.

He commended the state government for its enthusiasm to support the move by the Council to synergise efforts with the state government in fashioning a robust curriculum for insurance education.

The commissioner regretted the poor acceptance of insurance products despite the huge potential of the profession. She said that insurance providers needed to be more proactive in stimulating the interest of the youth in the subject.
